SHABACH! Ministries, Inc. is partnering with the Prince George’s County Office of Human Resource Management and the Youth@Work program in placing youth in 1000 positions over the summer. REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN for the SMI/ Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). Young people between the ages of 15 and 19 years old, who are Prince George’s County residents will have the opportunity to participate in career development, life-skills training and job training sponsored by Prince George's Community College (PGCC). Youth are eligible to participate in SYEP up to the age of 19. There is a substantial amount of information in this email. Please read carefully and share with students who are interested. Attached you will find a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

In order for students to be considered for these positions, especially non-profit positions, they must follow these steps.

1. Step 1: Go to www.shabachministries.org and click register here.
2. Step 2: Once registered above they will be directed to a second link. This link will provide them with instructions on how to register for Owl Link (PGCC’s platform for setting up an email account). On the left side of the page there are instructions titled 10 Simple Steps for Registration- SYEP (attached) The student should follow the steps listed and select job training option A, B, C, D (see Revised Y@W schedule attached) based on the dates they are available. All trainings are scheduled from 9:00am – 1:00pm. Please keep in mind Feb 6^th was the first day of option A & B. Students are only allowed to miss 1 class so if there are spots available in these options students will be required to attend each of the remaining courses and the assessment for the option they choose.
3. Step 3: APPLY APPLY APPLY. On February 22, 2016 the application process will open for students to apply for the open positions. Students must apply before the March 25 deadline in order to be considered for these positions. It is necessary for the student to APPLY in order to be considered for employment.
4. Step 4: Once the student has registered for classes they will need to attend the prescheduled job training dates, successfully complete the job training program and pass the assessment to receive a certificate and preferred placement in the jobs they have applied for. Please keep in mind completing the training does not guarantee being hired for a position.

Second year students will have the opportunity to gain competencies through the newly implemented Career Pathways Program. Because of their commitment, these students have earned the opportunity to participate in the Career Pathways Option. Youth@Work Career Pathways Training creates a structured environment for career exploration. In these courses, inexperienced employees receive instruction and have opportunities to demonstrate skills necessary for success in high demand career fields. The Career Pathway Option is a follow up to the Job Readiness Training, and focuses on seven basic skills that enhance ethical performance in the workplace. Activities in these courses emphasize The following skills: attitude, appearance, appreciation, accountability, attendance, ambition, and acceptance. This is a graded course and the final grade is recorded on your PGCC Non-Credit transcript. Please choose only one topic. 1. Career Pathways information is also on the college’s website: www.pgcc.edu/go/youthatwork. Search the topic for Career Pathways on the left hand side of the page and follow the directions titled 10 Simple Steps for Registration – Career Pathways (also attached).
2. To register for Career Pathways: Call the Youth@Work/SYEP office at PGCC 301-546-1580 to request the code to register for the class related to your chosen career field. Only approved students will be given access to the code. Unapproved students will be administratively withdrawn from the career pathways course, and provided an opportunity to enroll in the Job Readiness Training. The actual title for the class aligns with the industry trend.
